JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Oct. 26, 2011 --The Jacksonville area will again offer area high school tennis players a chance to sharpen their games prior to the 2012 high school tennis try-outs with the USTA Jr. Team Tennis 18-under intermediate and advanced leagues, beginning January 2012.
"Last season there were nine teams with 65 players, and we expect more teams for the 2012 season," said Jacksonville-area USTA Jr. Team Tennis Coordinator Diana Gardner. "There is lots of great competition with both the intermediate and advanced divisions."
The deadline for entry is Dec. 19, 2011, with play beginning Jan. 6 through Jan. 29, 2012, on Fridays at 4:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The team format is four singles and two doubles, co-ed, with 8-game pro sets.
Players must be current USTA members and age eligible through Aug. 31, 2012. The program fee is $30 paid on-line after team numbers are released, and the fee includes t-shirts, balls and awards.
As a bonus, teams with a minimum three boys and three girls participating locally will be eligible to enter and compete at the USTA Florida Jr. Team Tennis Summer Sectional tournament (qualified for the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships) in July 2012.
The captains meetings for all 2012 First Coast USTA Jr. Team Tennis flights will be held on Monday, Nov. 14 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at the Southeast Library off of Gate Parkway.
